Why vehicle fitment data is such a big challenge for auto part business ?

Basically, there are two main challenges that automotive ecommerce merchandises are currently facing: managing data and provide online vehicle fitment check system.

There are tons of vehicle data and replacement parts data need to be dealt with in either daily transactions or inventory management. For vehicles, there are vin numbers and YMM (year, manufacture and module) information. For replacement parts, there are part numbers from two different types of parts: OEM and aftermarket.

In that case, being as automotive industry standardised data formats, ACES and PIES may help manage different types of data within a standard so that people can easily find out what part fits a certain vehicle. But the reality is ACES and PIES are only being used as a tech tool exchanging information between big companies instead of being an online lookup tool that can be accessed by small business.

Managing those data is difficult enough, not along to find a proper ecommerce platform that can support this huge amount of data. Besides, integrating those data onto that ecommerce platform, and even provide an ecommerce friendly fitment check system for online customers to use, is also a big problem.

One key feature service PartsPal offers for auto part online businesses is its advanced vehicle fitment system. This system is made up by a complete database which covers 14 million part numbers (both OEM and aftermarket) along with their fitment information, and a smart fitment search system that is efficient in matching interchangeable parts with vehicles.

This database is constantly being updated as the industry grows and evolves since it is editable and customisable via adding and editing part number and fitment information.

It supports part fitment for vehicles years, sub-models, vehicle configurations, engine codes, tires and wheels. It also can be used to keep track of fitment for parts inventory, added to business’s own website/webshop, or accessed via an API.

Basically, what auto part business need to do is importing their parts inventory to PartsPal, then PartsPal automatically adds fitment data to parts matching part numbers in our database, and PartsPal publishes those parts to a range of sales channels, along with fitment information and PartsPal’s YMM filter sector.
